Love takes Risk

If you are afraid to get hurt when you love, think again. C.S. Lewis put it this way:

“If you want to make sure of keeping your love intact, you must give your heart to no one, not even to an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements; lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness.

But in the casket – safe, dark, motionless, airless – it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable.”

It’s impossible to love and never get hurt. Even the love that the cross carried has a message that to love is to take every risk, to unravel every differences and to unchain every fear. If we refuse to love, bitterness and the feeling of emptiness will reside in our hearts.

If you choose not to love,  not only you will be hurt, but the people you could have loved will be hurt in ways you may never know.

“We love each other because He loved us first.” 1 John 4:19 (NLT)
